MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Last month we had an
excellent turnout at our monthly meeting at Richard’s and we expect the same
this month at our meeting at Rupp’s
Riverdale. Yes I said Rupp’s Riverdale. Due to a scheduling conflict we have
switched the Rupp’s meeting and the Jack’s R Better one. We apologize for any inconvenience this may
cause. You’ll want to be there for this
PDM, as we will have one of our own, Past President Kurt Petersen, CPIM as our
featured speaker. He will talk about the
unique and highly successful process improvement tool used at Bemis.
I am pleased to announce that
our chapter has been recognized by Society as a Platinum chapter for the first
time. That is the highest rating given
to a chapter, and to achieve it we had to demonstrate that we had processes and
procedures in place to run a chapter that met our members needs, as well those
of the community, and other external customers. We also had to show that we maintain a sound
finances, and have appropriate financial controls. Receiving the award is quite an
accomplishment, and all of you should be proud to be a part of Shoreline
chapter. To be considered a chapter must
have performed at a Gold level for five years.
I want to make all of you
aware of an excellent opportunity that was recently made available to us. The NAPM-Milwaukee will be holding their
November meeting (November 9th) at Kohler Company, and we are
invited to attend. There is a tour
(limited availability) and the meal will be at the American Club. They have an excellent speaker and topic in
store as well, so please join us if you can. There are more details below on this event. The cost is $25, and must be made using a
credit card on an online sign up through the NAPM website. If you have any additional questions, please
contact me, as I serve on their Board as well.
I look forward to seeing you
at the October PDM at Rupp’s Riverdale,
on October 20th. I also
hope that many of you will take advantage of joining NAPM-Milwaukee at Kohler
Company for an excellent tour; good food; a great speaker and topic; and lots
of networking opportunities on Tuesday November 9th. Mark it on your calendar now.
Bruce Balthazor, CPIM, C.P.M.

Please come join us….
October 20th for the Professional
Development Meeting:
Speaker: Kurt Petersen
Topic – Continuous Improvement
At the Shoreline APICS October PDM, Kurt Petersen of Bemis Manufacturing will share with us the continuous improvement program that has been in effect at Bemis Manufacturing for the past ten years. Known as the Book-It program, it is a vehicle that provides opportunity for all employees to participate in problem-solving activities, resulting in considerable savings for the company. This PDM program will be an informal “hands-on” activity that could provide you with an applicable approach for your company to also realize problem-solving success through total employee involvement.
