February 2005

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

In addition to the changes in the APICS logo and Organizational focus was an increase in Society Dues of $15.00 that took effect January 1st. Please note that the entire increase you will see on your next billing cycle is due to this increase only. The local chapter dues have not changed.

Last month we were treated to an excellent presentation on the “Lean Transformation” at Ariens.  Paul Leao, who is one of the Lean Managers at Ariens, gave an interesting insight into the four year journey the company has gone through, and the demonstrated results it has had on the “bottom line”. There were many questions about details by the PDM attendees, which is always a positive indicator on how successful a program is.

I want to make you all aware that our CPIM Review Classes will be moving from Vollrath to Bemis Company in Sheboygan Falls. Timing is still being worked on, but in any event, the latest the move will take place is beginning with The Execution and Control Class starting March 3rd.  Thank you to Kate Blumenstein of Vollrath, who was instrumental in arranging for, and for personally sacrificing her time to make our program a huge success there. I also wish to thank Gerry Quisenberry of Bemis, who was the driving force in making arrangements, and handling the transition to Bemis.

Please mark you calendars now for our March 16th PDM. The featured event is a tour of Plenco in Sheboygan. We expect this event to be very popular, and as we are restricted to a maximum of 30 people, it is best to register soon. Our dinner meeting will be at Klemmes Wagon Wheel in Howards Grove and one our own members, Colin Theobald of Plenco, will be our featured speaker.

I look forward to seeing many of you at both of these PDM’s.

Bruce Balthazor, CPIM, C.P.M.

 INSTRUCTOR HONORARIUMS

We are currently seeking instructors for the CPIM review courses.  The instructors receive $750 as honorariums for every course.  If you are interested, please contact any of the board members.

Now that the Holidays are past us, it is time to renew our educational offerings to your chapter APICS membership.  The Fox Valley Chapter, in partnership with Fox Valley Technical College, will again offer the Basics of Supply Chain Management course in a weekend format.  This year it is offered February 11, 12, & 13 in beautiful Appleton, WI.  Also, the Central Wisconsin Chapter of APICS is hosting a weekend Basics class as well.  It will be held March 18, 19 & 20.  This class will be held in beautiful Wausau, WI!

This is a great way for members with some background in supply chain to get started on their CPIM.  We've had people from out of state attend them, for this very reason!

If you would like to offer this to your membership, please direct them to www.fvtc.edu/cpim in a newsletter or on your website.  Scroll down to "traditional courses" and then click on schedule.  Information is listed about the classes, as well as how to register for the Appleton Class.

More information about the Wausau class can be obtained directly from me or Jerry Olson at jolson@kolbe-kolbe.com. Anne Haberkorn, CFPIM, CIRM, Jonah
