Board of Directors 2005-2006
Our year is
off to a great start in a number of ways. We had an excellent turnout for our
September PDM. This was due in no small
part to the participation of Steve Redmer and a significant number of his
students from the Supply Chain Management program at LTC. It’s great to have
them take part in our events, as they are the future of our profession and our
organization. Steve Cassady, Director, Global Procurement at Kohler Company
treated them, and the rest of our members and guests, to an excellent presentation. He provided an interesting
look into the changes in structure and
the initiatives he has fostered since joining the company two years ago.
Our CPIM
Review Program Basics Course has begun.
We have a large group of
participants with diverse backgrounds from a number of local companies taking
part. We have room to accommodate an
even larger group, so please check our schedule for upcoming session dates and
times, and contact me if you are interested in this excellent method of
preparation for the CPIM exams.
The Board
of Directors is looking for several leaders to step forward and join us in
shaping the Chapter’s future. We have several openings including a need for
someone willing to serve as President next year after a year of serving as
Executive Vice President. Please contact any Board member to inquire about the
openings, or to make arrangements to attend one of our Board meetings (no
obligation). Our next Board of Directors meeting will be held on November 1st
at 6:00 PM at LTC.
Our October
PDM promises to be another interesting and informative evening, as featured
speaker, Dennis McCullough, asks the question “Lean and Six Sigma, Is it Either
or Neither?” Dennis has spoken to us in the past, and has been well received. I
expect that he will provide a very insightful look at these concepts as he has
experience with them as a practitioner, and as a consultant. Please join us on
the 25th of October to hear his presentation, and to network with
others in our profession.

APICS
October 25th Professional Development
Meeting
Please note that the date for our October PDM has been changed to
October 25th to avoid conflicting with APICS 2005 International
Conference and Exposition. The location
has also been changed to Jacks "R" Better in Manitowoc.
Speaker: Dennis
Mccullough
Topic: Lean or Six Sigma, Is it Either or Neither
Lean and
Six Sigma, are these two mutually exclusive business improvement
strategies? Do we pick one or the other,
or something else entirely?
In order to
answer these questions, we need to understand how two seemingly different
improvement methodologies can work together to create a clear focus on removing
waste and variability in any type of business process.
This
presentation will discuss what is the same and what is different about these
two strategies. Most importantly, you
will learn how a combined Lean Six Sigma approach can be leveraged to gain
significant improvements in business performance.
Dennis C. McCullough is president of McCullough
Enterprises, LLC, a worldwide management education and consulting firm. With
over 35 years of management experience both domestic and abroad, Denny has
achieved an impressive track record for helping companies of varied sizes and
industries implement strategies to attain world-class performance levels.
Denny founded McCullough Enterprises, LLC to focus his time, experience and
energy on helping manufacturing firms in Wisconsin become more competitive
worldwide.
Denny has extensive experience including having served as senior vice president
of a major, worldwide education and consulting practice based in Chicago where
he specialized in course design with emphasis on adult learning methodologies.
He has also held a number of key management positions for firms such as Hyster
Company and Terex Corporation, where he was responsible for corporate materials
management and operations, with a heavy emphasis on the development and
implementation of business improvement strategies, including Class A ERP, Lean
manufacturing, Six Sigma and team building.
An engaging and popular speaker, Denny is a frequent presenter on a variety of
business improvement topics, including successful team building. His speaking
engagements include the 1993 and 1997 international APICS conventions and the
1993 SME convention. Denny is APICS-certified as a CPIM, and has maintained his
certification since earning it in 1979. He also received the 1989 Member of the
Year Award from the local, Green Bay chapter of APICS.

I assumed responsibility for publishing the newsletter this
month. Randy Broeckert had to give up
the position due to conflicts with a new job.
Randy has done a fine job for the last two years and we on the Board
certainly appreciate his efforts.
I'll be making some changes to the format and content of the
newsletter over the next few months. I
would welcome any comments or suggestions.
Please email Newsletter@ShorelineApics.org.
