In This Issue:

·         Board of Directors 2005-2006

Message from the President:

In January we met at the Silver Valley Supper Club, a new location for us.  We were pleased to have Ben Milbrath of Kohler speak to us for the first time.  He provided a unique look at inventory measurement. Thanks go out Ruth Zimmermann for locating another good site, and to Linda Tryba who contacted Ben about presenting to us.

For February we will be at one of our more familiar locations¸ Millersville House, with a familiar speaker, Denny McCullough, who has shared his expertise with us a number of times.  He always gives an excellent presentation on a timely topic. The topic for this month’s presentation is How Applying the 5S’s Equals 50% Set Up Reduction. After taking care of your heart on the 14th (Valentine’s Day), come out and take care of your head, by attending our PDM. As Steven Covey says in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, it is important to take the time to “sharpen the saw”. For other ways to do that,  click on APICS links such as CPIM certification; take our CPIM classes; learn about and prepare for the CSCP certification; attend a seminar or an APICS webinar; or subscribe to the APICS e-News .

I hate to sound like a broken record (sounds like a failure to adapt to change-perhaps CD is more appropriate), but we continue to have a pressing need for someone among us who has leadership and organizational skills that they could share with the chapter by serving as Executive Vice President. This person would not be expected to accept the responsibility with no training. They would serve the Board in a learning by watching capacity for a year. They are responsible for work on the Passport, but there are many on the Board who assist with this duty. They would work with an experienced and energetic group of folks who have devoted their talents to make our Chapter a success, and its fun! I know there are many of you out there who could take our chapter to the next level.  Please consider volunteering. The time commitment is small in relationship to the impact one can make, and the rewards available for your efforts. It is time for someone else to take over the helm of our Chapter. Is that someone you? If so, please contact me, or any of the other board members to learn more.  You’ll be glad you did!

February 15th Professional Development Meeting

Speaker:        Dennis C. McCullough

President McCullough Enterprises, LLC

Topic:             How Applying the 5S’s Equals 50% Set Up Reduction

Many of the Lean principles are closely related and interdependent.  One of the most beneficial relationships is the 5S methodology and the Set Up or Changeover Reduction process.  In fact, applying the 5S’s to a Set Up /

Changeover process time, factory or office, almost always results in a 50% reduction….or more!

Here’s the really cool part!  It never costs more than “pocket change” to work these two simple, yet powerful, Lean strategies in parallel.  This presentation will explain how 5S and Set Up / Changeover Reduction work hand-in-hand to reduce cost and reallocate capacity to value-added work including some “real-life” examples.

Speaker Biography

Denny formed McCullough & Associates, LLC in 2005. Prior to his new venture, Denny was president and owner of a consulting franchise, operating internationally to assist in business improvement strategy implementations such as Supply Chain, Lean and Six Sigma. Denny has extensive experience including having served as vice president of a major, worldwide education and consulting practice based in Chicago where he specialized in course design with emphasis on adult learning methodologies. He has also held a number of key management positions for firms such as Hyster Company and Terex Corporation, where he was responsible for corporate materials management and operations, with a heavy emphasis on the development and implementation of business improvement strategies, including Class A ERP, Lean manufacturing and team building.
