MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

We are off to a very successful start to the program year. Our September PDM was very well attended.  Bob Collins, our featured speaker, treated us to an extremely interesting and informative presentation. He provided a number of templates by which to measure what stage your supply chain and its professionals are at. His presentation clearly indicated that supply chain professionals must grow and evolve in order to keep pace with ever changing requirements. The journey from tactical to strategic is long and arduous, but necessary for our companies and for us to compete on a global basis and survive.

Another sign of our successful start is that our first CPIM Review class is now underway with an almost full group of participants. There are a few openings left for upcoming sessions, so if you are at all interested, please contact me for details. We were please to present CPIM pins to three of last year’s participants who were in attendance at the September meeting as well. Sue D’Amico, Sue Krebsbach and Brett Koehn were recognized for earning their CPIM certifications. Congratulations!

For October we have another very interesting PDM that will include a tour of Spancrete in Valders. They manufacture a very interesting concrete product that is used in construction industry and is used in the Marquette Interchange project in Milwaukee. Our keynote speaker will be their Plant Manager, Brett Evanson. While the topic is not finalized, we can expect to hear about the history of the company and its products. Please join us for on October 18th for this event. Our dinner meeting will take place at a new location for us, The Edgewood Pub. Please see the PDM section of the newsletter for more details and directions to Spancrete and the Edgewood Pub.

The International Conference in Orlando (October 29-31) is rapidly approaching.  APICS recently announced that they would hold a Health Care Materials Management Symposium on October 30th in conjunction with the International Conference and Exposition.  APICS also has several webinars coming up, including on October 24th entitled “Safety Stock-A Key to Financial Success”. Details can be found at apicsmeetings.webex.com.

For those needing to maintain their CPIM certification, there are a number of ways to get the points necessary.   75 points are needed and 5 per year are earned for APICS membership. For those interested in the requirements, we have copies of the Certification Maintenance Bulletin available at all PDM’s.

One last note, we could use additional talent on the BOD. If you are at all interested, or just curious, please attend one of our meetings. The next one is Tuesday Nov 7 at LTC starting at 6:00 p.m. Please contact any BOD member if you’d like to attend.

I look forward to another big turnout at our October PDM, as we tour Spancrete, and hope to see many of you there.

Bruce Balthazor, CPIM, C.P.M.
