MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

As 2006 winds down I write my last message for the year. I frequently mention how quickly the time is flying by. The same is true with change in our profession and in the global marketplace. Many have seen, or will see soon, changing roles brought about by ever more rapid advancements in technology and communication; and how they are used to shape our world. We must be very adaptable to change as well as be like a sponge when it comes to learning new concepts and skills if we are to prosper or even possibly survive in the supply chain field. The manufacturing sector (where most of us ply our skills) seems to be impacted the most significantly (and negatively) by the changes in our world. We must change our paradigms if we are to turn disastrous trends towards offshore production by capitalizing on our strengths, such as those discussed by Thomas Krupka during his excellent presentation at our November PDM. I mention these things to highlight the importance of continuous improvement. Many of us apply those concepts to our workplace, but we must also apply them to ourselves and take advantage of the opportunities available to grow professionally. We, at the Shoreline Chapter, have speakers who provide insight into concepts and trends that impact on our profession. There are many other sources of valuable information available too, such as APICS International; other professional organizations; education institutions; and in-house programs. I encourage all to take advantage of as many opportunities for professional development as are available to you. Your professional future could very well depend on it.

I also want to mention briefly that APICS International is taking a vote in January to potentially modify their governance structure. Basically what the proposed change does is to reduce the size of the BOD to a manageable level to facilitate decision-making (the larger the group the more difficult to reach agreement on anything). The new proposed change is not a drastic as the one that didn’t pass several years ago. This would impact us due to the reduction in Regions from 14 to 9.  Our Region 14 would be combined with Region 13 (Illinois and Indiana). The new Region would have the largest membership within APICS.  Regional leadership supports the proposal and it is likely to pass. I’ll provide more information as it becomes available.

This is the time of year when we all need to spend some quality time with our family and friends. I, and the rest of the Board, wish all a Happy Holiday season as well as a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Once the holidays are over please mark your calendars to join us at the January PDM on the 11th at the Silver Valley Supper Club where our featured speaker will be Greg Gauthier. He has addressed us in the past and always provides excellent thought provoking presentations.

1/11/07 Professional Development Meeting:

Topic: Opening the Door on Your Potential

How many times have you felt that you have more potential than what you are

showing in your career, your wages or your role as a spouse or parent? Few

people live up to their potential - Why? Our speaker will: 1) present

concepts to explain why we, as individuals and groups, get the results we

do, 2) give you concrete techniques to release more of your potential and 3)

teach you how to get more out of the people around you at work and home.

You're guaranteed to pick up something that will make you think differently.

Speaker: Greg Gauthier

Greg Gauthier has been leading people for over 25 years. He has held senior

positions in publicly traded and privately held companies and was a company

owner for nearly ten years. Today he is a partner in the management

consulting firm of Foxwood Associates helping clients develop and execute

strategies to improve earnings, cash flow and growth.

During his career Greg has had the opportunity to see a lot of variation in

the performance of people and companies. Often he'd observe individuals with

similar capabilities getting much different results or companies with

similar "potential" performing at very different levels. This led him to

take an interest in how people and companies think and how that might

explain why some thrive while others just survive. Tonight he will share

with us some of what he's learned and give us an insight into ourselves, our

families and our work lives.

Location: Knox’s Silver Valley Supper Club

1222 S Alverno Rd, Manitowoc, WI

Hwy 43 to 151W- exit 149. Take 151W for approx 1 mile. Take a Right on

Alverno Road, go approx 1 mile. Silver Valley is on the Left.

Tip of the Month:  Certification maintenance cycles run in 5-year intervals ending on the last day of the month that initial certification is received.  If you fail to earn the 75 required points by this deadline your certification will be suspended.  To reinstate it you will need to earn the 75 core points + an additional 15 points for each year that your certification maintenance has lapsed.  Well worth the effort to earn the necessary points within the allotted time line.
