Board of Directors 2006-2007
It seems hard to believe that we are already approaching our
last PDM for the season. The year just seemed to fly by. Our April meeting at
Richard’s is Top Management Night. Please be sure to invite your leadership to
this meeting. As is tradition, this will also be our Chapter Awards night where
we recognize Member(s) of the Year, and
Company of the Year. We will also be presenting scholarships to students in the
LTC Supply Chain Management Program,
Our featured speaker will be Jon Bingol. He addressed us
several years ago at our Top Management Event and was very
well received. He brings a wealth of experience as a consultant and
business educator. He has spent time with over 1500 organizations and from that
exposure he has developed his topic for the meeting
“Creating a Culture of Competence and Caring”. His presentation should prove to
be very interesting and thought provoking. We are extremely pleased that he
will be joining us again.
As if our agenda and speaker weren’t
enough to get you to reserve the 17th for our meeting; we will also have some
excellent raffle prizes that were generously donated by Bemis, and we also plan
on having some nice door prizes, as well. So, please mark your calendar, and
plan on joining us.
There is still a need for some additional talent to join us
on the BOD. We are specifically looking for someone to take on the role of
treasurer as Linda Tryba has been admirably serving in that position for a
number of years, but she now wishes to serve the organization in a different
role. As I’ve
said in the past, involvement on the BOD is fun and very interesting. The
position’s we seek to fill do not require significant time commitments, but
will allow you to have a voice in how we serve our members. It also provides
the chance to gain leadership; team building skills; and communication skills,
all skills sought after by employers. We will be holding our Strategic Planning
Meeting for year 2007-2008 soon, and ask that you contact any current board
member if you would be interested in joining us and participating in this event
that shapes the future plans of our organization.
There is still time to sign up for our final CPIM Review
Class of the season, Strategic Management of Resources beginning on Thursday
April 12th, It is also not too early to plan on taking all of the
CPIM review classes beginning in September. While the final schedule is not
available, I would anticipate it to be very similar to the one we had this
year, with classes on Thursday evenings.
For those of you who have become CPIM certified, or
re-certified recently, we want to recognize you with a CPIM pin at one of our
PDMS. If this is you, please contact me, and I will make
arrangements to present you with a pin.
It has been a pleasure serving as president, and meeting
many of you at our events. Once again, thank you for being part of our
organization, and for participating in our events. It has been a very
successful year thanks to all of you and your participation in our PDM’s and
CPIM Review Classes. Although our programs will cease until September, please
do not overlook the many other opportunities available out there to
continuously improve ourselves and increase the value we add to our employers.
I hope to see many of you
at our last PDM of the season on April 17th.

Professional Development Meeting:
Speaker: Jon Bingol has been an active
APICS member for 19 years. He has served
on 5 different Chapter Boards, Region 14, and the
International Board of Directors. He has been recognized with two of APICS top honors: The Voluntary Service Award and The Student
Chapter Mentor Award. He has earned the
designations: CFPIM, CQM, PCD, and
Jonah. Jon has been a consultant and
business educator for 15 years. Mr.
Bingol has assisted such large companies as: Bosch, Kellogg’s, Pfizer, Steelcase, Stryker,
Tennaco, and Whirlpool. He has also
worked with many smaller organizations.
Jon has spoken to groups across the country in venues both large and
small. His entertaining, yet,
educational style will hold your attention.
Topic: “Creating
a Culture of Competence and Caring”
Having been in well over 1,500
different organizations over the past 20 years, I began to notice numerous
similarities regardless of industrial classification, size, or tenure. This observation led me to theorize The
Universality of Management, which expounds on the fact that all organizations
have certain innate qualities. Further,
I began to see common obstacles that would impair or prevent improvement
efforts. If this topic were a college
course, it would be a prerequisite to the next course every organization claims
they really want to implement—“Excellence:
Expecting It, Enabling It, and Executing for It.” This presentation will:
The ideas covered in this talk have been developed and
improved through years of consulting, educating, and assisting organizations
with their improvement efforts. Too
often, groups want to start with the trendy programs touted by the experts. These projects may result in seemingly
impressive gains in the short run and more than a few professionals have been promoted for the affect they created. However, in many cases
the results were not made systemic and the long term effects were less than
positive. Therefore, it is imperative
that we avoid these missteps and proceed in a manner that will yield our
desired results.
