MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Fellow APICS Members;

It may be hard to accept, but summer is already nearly over.  It’s not quite over yet but the days are already noticeably shorter.  While we may miss the long hot days of summer, the end of one season brings the beginning of a new one, and this season promises to be a great one.

The Shoreline Chapter of APICS has been hard at work to bring you the areas best education and networking available in the field of supply chain management.  Our board has put together a great PDM schedule with both new and familiar meeting places and speakers.

We are starting the season off with the September 18th PDM at a chapter favorite, Milhomme Supper Club in Kiel.  I urge you all to attend and share ideas and viewpoints with your peers and enjoy a pleasant meal and perhaps glean some new information to take with you.  Please say thanks to the board members that help put these meetings together.

Don’t forget that the APICS International Conference in Denver is coming soon - October 21-23. Visit the APICS website (www.apics.org) to learn about registration and other details.

The Manitowoc Crane Group’s SAP implementation,” Project One”, is going well and I am gaining a new appreciation for those in our chosen professions that have to write and document processes so that others can step in and follow them. The key is to have a good team of people, and keep thing light and energetic.  Every once in a while a breath of fresh air or a tasteful bit of humor does wonders to keep everyone on task and on schedule.

Sincerely,

James Prellwitz, CPIM

President: Shoreline-APICS

Speaker:  Jeff Rideout, Founder and President of - WhiteLight Group/Odyssey Solution Group

Jeff has successfully taught and implemented the Theory of Constraints (TOC) approach to Lean Manufacturing in more than 30 organizations across a variety of manufacturing industries. He is a protégée of management guru Dr Eli Goldratt, the creator of TOC. Eli and Jeff have a close personal and professional relationship that extends back to 1990 when Jeff participated in Eli's elite, invitation only, Odyssey Jonah program and continues today with regular coaching, counsel, and discussions covering leading edge TOC strategies and tactics.

Topic: "Continuous Improvement Trio as the top elements of TOC, Lean, and Six Sigma make beautiful music together" as an article from the May 2006 issue of APICS Magazine stated. Our speaker will discuss how TOC when applied to production, supply-chain, scheduling, finance, and front office in combination with Lean and Six Sigma has achieved significant results in revenue, profits, and cost reduction by the combination of driving down waste and also determining limiting constraints and then exploiting them within various systems of an organization.
