MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Fellow APICS members:

We are off to a good but challenging start to the program year. 27 people attended our September PDM at Millhome.  We were finally able to present Steve Rasmussen with his membership award and Lifeng Wu, Systems Analyst for Kohler, was awarded his CPIM completion pin.  When you meet our Executive VP Alice Ward, please thank her for stepping up to the plate and leading the show.  If you have not heard, my Co-President Bruce Balthazar is temporarily sidelined due to health issues and I am busy with work out of the state.  Alice has done a great job filling in for both of us.  Bruce is doing well and should be back in action after a few weeks of R&R.  Please extend your hopes and prayers for his quick recovery.

For October we have another very interesting PDM that will include a tour of the Kohler Engine Plant.  This is a great opportunity and is limited to a smaller group.   Rob Kraus, Superintendent of Manufacturing, will host the tour so it should be very insightful. The PDM dinner and presentation is being held at Black Wolf Run so please don’t miss this very special event.

The International Conference in Denver (October 21-23) is rapidly approaching.  Please check the APICS website for last minute registration details.

For those needing to maintain their CPIM certification, there are a number of ways to get the points necessary.   75 points are needed and 5 per year are earned for APICS membership.  For those interested in the requirements, we have copies of the Certification Maintenance Bulletin available at all PDM’s.

The Manitowoc Crane Group’s “Project ONE’ is still going strong.  The teams are still diligently writing and rewriting processes that will be implemented into the new ERP system.  Cultural differences are beginning to become more apparent.  Just a few things that come to mind: The French have a business custom where every single morning you must great every single coworker with a hand shake, Midwest coleslaw has too much sugar in it for the likes of the French and apparently what Americans think of as German beer doesn’t fit what the Germans think of as German beer.  I believe that the term used was “water with bubbles.”  October will find me in France for three weeks so I am sure there will be more intriguing customs to learn about.

Best wishes to all and remember the October PDM and Kohler tour.  It should be exciting and educational.

James Prellwitz, CPIM

President: Shoreline-APICS
