To our Readers: President’s Message

Happy New Year!

We got off to a great start with a wonderful presentation by Greg Gauthier at our January PDM.  We actually had great weather!  Greg took us on a journey which revealed how and why China and India have become such prospering economies.  He helped us understand the differences in the cultures and how that has affected their progress.  Thanks Greg for such a great lesson.

We have a new speaker, Paul Decker, to brighten our February PDM at Heritage House.  Note the location change from previous newsletters.  The topic sounds very applicable to every individual.  Check out the information about the February PDM below.

Volunteer work is very rewarding, especially when doing it together with others who are as dedicated as the Shoreline Chapter Board.  Please join us for our monthly business meetings, the first Tuesday of every month at LTC.  The time is 6:00 and dinner is provided.  We are looking for a Vice-President and Historian.  Come join us and see how much fun it is!

Keep in mind those less fortunate and contact any board member if you have positions open in your companies.  Several of our Board members are currently seeking new positions.  Lots of talent is available.

SPEAKER: PAUL DECKER

Paul Decker shares his insights from life experience helping people and organizations adjust and thrive in the 21st Century. He has worked in sales and as an executive for Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, local and internationally based manufacturing firms, and serves on several Boards.

In 1997 Paul’s life was interrupted by a sudden diagnosis of a large mass in the right lung. It turned out to be a cancerous tumor, and had spread to his lymph nodes. His right lung and several lymph nodes were removed, and six weeks later he started chemotherapy, followed by radiation. It was a shock since Paul had never smoked and displayed no tell-tale symptoms. After a year of strenuous rehabilitation, Paul was back rebuilding his life.

Recently completing his Master’s degree, learning and implementing new skills has proven successful for Paul, and he brings those skills to life in his keynote speeches, strategic planning sessions, leadership and sales training seminars, coaching, and mentoring.

Paul works with a vast array of private clients that include Fortune 500 organizations, businesses with 10 to 2000 people, non-profits, universities and business associations.  Paul has developed customized training programs for firms based on customer needs, industry protocols, his vast experience, and the latest research from his teaching and learning. Paul teaches in the Small Businesses Center at Waukesha County Technical College and currently serves as District Trainer for Rotary International District 6270 and will be District Governor in 2010-11. He is also on the Midwest Division Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, and recently was appointed to Waukesha County Board of Supervisors.

TOPIC: Living & Working in the 21st Century

The 21st Century will be better for People & Organizations that:

-THINK, LEARN, and IMPLEMENT on a routine basis

-Are open to Communication in all its' formats

-Understand we have more in common than we have differences

Certification FAQ

Do I have to be an APICS member to become certified?
No, but you will save money if you are a member. APICS members receive a discount of more than 25 percent on APICS CPIM and CIRM exam registration fees and receive valuable savings on reference materials and educational programs. Nonmembers may register, but they must first call APICS Customer Support to obtain an APICS Customer Number.

Can I become an APICS member and register for an exam at the same time?
No. Your membership status must be active when you register to ensure that you receive the member rate. To allow adequate time for your membership information to be transferred to Pearson VUE, you should wait until you have received your membership card before contacting the test center.

APICS members should keep their memberships current and renew them promptly to avoid a lapse in benefits. When registering for an exam, you must have your APICS member number available to ensure that you receive that APICS member rate. Corporate members must provide their unique individual membership number to receive the member rate.

Is there a waiting period to retake a APICS CPIM/CIRM examination?
Yes. You must wait 30 days before retaking an APICS certification examination. There are no exceptions to this policy. APICS encourages any candidate who does not pass an exam to attend review courses held by the local APICS chapter or to order certification reference materials for additional study before retaking the exam.

What is the scoring process for APICS CPIM, APICS CIRM, and APICS CSCP exams?
The Understand a Scaled Score document explains the use of a scaled score system for reporting test performance in the APICS CPIM and CIRM programs.

Does a change to the APICS courseware indicate a change to the exam?
Not necessarily. Not all changes to the courseware are due to changes in the exam specifications. While APICS courseware is periodically updated to reflect changes in the exam specifications, it is also updated in response to feedback from instructors and students regarding ways to enhance the learning experience and to reflect industry trends.

Additionally, exam content is reviewed annually by APICS exam committees—committee decisions are reflected in the exam specifications document. For the APICS CPIM program, refer to the current version of the APICS CPIM Exam Content Manual; candidates for the APICS CSCP exam should refer to the current APICS CSCP examination content outline. Your examination preparation and APICS courseware experience are more likely to be successful when these documents are the foundation of your study efforts.

Editor's Note:

Joke for the day:

Bosses versus workers

When I take a long time, I am slow.
When my boss takes a long time, he is thorough.

When I don't do it, I am lazy.
When my boss doesn't do it, he's too busy.

When I do it without being told, I'm trying to be smart.
When my boss does the same that is initiative.

When I please my boss, that's brown-nosing.
When my boss pleases his boss, that's co-operating.

When I do good, my boss never remembers.
When I do wrong, he never forgets.
