To
our Readers: President’s Message
We
certainly have seen the expression of love this month! Many of our members brought guests to our
PDM. Keep up the good work! Our VP of Membership, Dave Wargin, has moved
to
It
was fun to pick what we wanted to eat from a nice selection of choices. We are sincerely sorry and appreciate the
patience expressed by those who did not get their meals in a timely manner. It was worth the wait, though.
Our
speaker, Paul Decker, was certainly well received. Paul made us aware of the differences between
the 20th century and the 21st century. It would have been hard to walk away from the
talk without thinking about how we need to change to
stay competitive in this century. Paul
gave very specific behaviors we need to express to move forward and progress
today. These are just two of many
positive comments we received:
·
Excellent-dynamic-thought
provoking.
·
Wonderful
information, energetic speaker.
The
March PDM will be conducted by the Student Chapter. Please come and support our future
members. These future members just
competed with 28 other Student Chapters in the Annual Case Competition. I was privileged to attend and hope I never
have to miss another one. What a joy to
experience the determination, independence and knowledge that was expressed by
these students. Congratulations to
everyone who participated! No one walked
away without learning something about operations management and themselves.
Our
dedicated Shoreline Chapter Board makes all these networking and educational
opportunities possible. Please join us
for a board meeting held the first Tuesday of every month at LTC. The time is
Keep
in mind those less fortunate and contact any board member if you have positions
open in your companies. Several of our
Board members are currently seeking new positions. Lots of talent is available. The “Extension of Membership Benefit Form” is
available for any unemployed individuals who are currently members.

Editor's Note:
The Manager and the Engineer
A man in a hot air
balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a man below. He
descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised
a friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The man below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering
approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 42 degrees north
latitude and between 58 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.
"I am," replied the man, "but how did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is
technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and
the fact is I am still lost."
The man below responded, "You must be a manager."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "how did you know?"
"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you
are going. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you
expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are exactly in the same
position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."
